About to start my build.

These are simple stills with no column. Doublers and puke boxes are allowed.

About to start my build.

Postby txbrewing » Tue Nov 22, 2016 9:10 am

So, my SS parts should hit the fab shop today so this weekend I can modify the keg for the boiler.

Will build a copper pot still head based on some highly recommended plans 2 inch stock, approx 15-18 inches tall, reducing to 3/4 output.
Liebig will be 1 inch over 3/4 with a 36 inch water jacket length.

First question

reducing from the 4" to the 2" is there a difference other than price in using the end-cap style reducer or a concentric reducer.
Understanding that the concentric will add some height.

Thanks

I'd guess you could worry about vapor eddies around the hard corners but it's probably not enough to bother with. Whatever works is good.

It was so awesome getting to build the boiler with my little brother.
Here are a few pics of him doing some work.

Might want to blur out plate numbers and such before posting pictures, but that is me.

What's the plan for the drain? I can't figure it out from the parts there.

Mebbe your brother could explain it to you.

I will supply the first hint. The keg boiler is upside down so therefore the normal fill port is at the bottom.

Cheers.

Upside down...missed that part. Makes sense now. I should have reread the thread before posting.

Try looking at the pictures, and they don't require coloring crayons. :roflmao:
