Will it work?

Postby Harry » Mon Dec 13, 2010 9:19 am

Just set up video STREAMING on the Library site, (see my sig). Works like youtube does. Dunno yet if it will kill the server or bandwidth. Put up a few test vids, 4mb to 100 mb. Feedback would be appreciated. Unfortunately I can't do anything about the vid quality. I didn't shoot them.

For those who don't know what streaming is...you can start viewing anytime after the view box appears, at any point in the vid (slider select). You don't need to wait for the whole damn thing to download.

Well the server is in US and I'm in AU. I have no problem connecting, so its gotta be your ISP/connection. Do you have broadband? (minimum requirement. See the opening or help pages).

Yeah that's a known issue with the streaming software. Next update from the vendor should fix that (hopefully).

Has anyone run the big file yet? (15 mins. dirty jobs cooperage). Also, has anyone run full screen yet? Find the options by moving the mouse over the vid while it's playing. There's a popup navbar with click options.

I haven't had time to do the help files for it yet.

Yes I had a similar issue on one test. Fix for the freeze was to click the pause, move the slider back a bit, then click the run arrow (take it off pause). Then it played fine right through. I dunno if it's the streamer software, or a sometimes slow connection (probably) or hiccups in the server itself. But at least there is a way to get around it.

Sorry guys, technology is buggy at best. Always has been. Just ask any windows user who's been there since the get-go.
