getting a 10 poundCO2 cylinder filled

Natural materials such as cotton and natural rawhide fit here. But it could be dough or water too.

getting a 10 poundCO2 cylinder filled

Postby slowpokedom » Sun Dec 11, 2011 3:44 am

I live about 80 miles north of tampa florida near crystal river. I can not seem to locate someone to fill a 10 pound CO2 cylinder that i just purchased.

I have contacted a few AIRGAS dealers and they exchange 5 pound and 20 pound cylinders but for some reason not 10 pounders.

i really need help on this one.

Check out the fire safety people. Fire extinguisher service companies can fill co2 cylinders.

Some larger homebrew shops may too. If you want food grade you may not get it at the fire company's.

Depends what you're using it for. If you're gassing beer with it you probably will, if you're putting fires out with it, you definately won't.

It's very hard to get someone to fill your new bottle on demand. They will want to exchange your new bottle for one off their beat up, but full bottles. This is an old racquet that I gave up fighting. They get your shiny new bottle and you get a rusted piece of shyte...but take in a rusted bottle and they will want to test it, at your expense, before filling it.

Smaller welding/medical gas shops play better. Some beer distributors will exchange co2 bottles.

+1 for fire control / suppression places

Personally, I would want to see a MSDS sheet on industrial co2 before I would not buy it.

We finally went to the tackle shack in pinellas park florida-- it was $3 a pound to fill the tank. We used a beer brewing class as an excuse to go to Tampa that day.

I picked up some birch beer flavo/uring so i could get something started with the co2. Now i have to research methods of carbonating a beverage.

The best method is to set it at the serving pressure in the fridge (about 70 or 80 kpa) for a week.

Failing that you can take a cold keg, hook it up at 300 kpa and rock it backwards and forwards while it lays on the ground for two minutes.

Let the beer subside for 10 mins

Then put it back in at serving pressure for a couple days to settle.

Either way the first one or two beers seem to lack a little carbonation, but once there's some headspace in the keg it goes alright.
