Column Cleaning

These usually have the means for returning the spirits to the column and usually allow metering of the take off to help in the reflux.

Column Cleaning

Finally started running low on vodka for the wife so time to break the column back out. Happy Wife = Happy Life.

Anyway, unwrapped the ends and looked through it and found it was beyond patina inside, it was solid black. I found a brush and rod system made to clean the flue to a pellet stove or dryer vent. Flexible rods screw together and a 3 inch or 4 inch nylon bristle brush screws on the end. Chuck the rod in your drill and clean away! I made a sludge of salt and vinigar and let the spinning brush work it's magic in my copper column. It worked like a charm and only took a couple of minutes vs a stick with scrubbies working back and forth.

Just thought I would share.

Sounds good.
Another way to prevent it getting like that is to wash the column out with the hot backset from the still. Very acidic.
What's that?
