Lager or Ale yeast for UJSM?

This is for the general discussion about the whole process end to end.

Lager or Ale yeast for UJSM?

Postby sasquatch » Thu Feb 23, 2017 7:01 pm

I want to start a UJSM for whiskey.

I talked to the manger (friend) of a local craft brewery to see if I can get some yeast that they use.
He said sure they scrap off and toss every week.
They are using two types, one for Lager and one for Ale.
Anyone try using left over yeast from a brewery on a UJSM?
Which one would be a better fit in your opinion?

ale for sure. Lager yeast ideal ferment temp is too low.

A lot of folks use bakers yeast with good results as well.
