This may not be news to anyone, but I've tried to push my keg based pot at full throttle with two 5500W elements during stripping runs without puking. Wouldn't work. about 30 mins into run it would puke. Bought some Fermcap S to see what would give and it worked. In a 15 gal keg with approx. 1 1/2" headspace I did 2 runs with both elements at full bore with no problems at all. Had a gallon of wash in in-line thumper which was treated with anti-foam as well.

Speeds up a run nicely.

depends on what you run as well.

granted I've only one 5500w element but can strip a sugarhead full bore no bother, an Ag needs a bit slow boiling before I can go full bore, I ran a rum the other day 30l ish in a 50l keg and only cranked it up full bore when taking tails and it puked.

I am running UJs right now and can't use 11kw without the anti-foam. I can run one element wide open while stripping no problems.

What sized condenser do you use to knock down 11,000 watts of vapor? That keg must be jumping with that heavy a boil!

JS, I overbuilt a shotgun. 3" tri clamp spool with 18 - 3/8" tubes and 4 baffles 36" long. 11kw is a breeze for this thing. I calculated the cooling water used but can't remember the rate off the top of my head , but remember approx. 40 gal of water to strip 15 gal wash or thereabouts. The 55 gal drum and radiator heat up pretty quick so I used well water to strip at that power input. I was just experimenting but honestly believe I could add another element (I have no intention of doing so) and the shotgun could handle it.

And yes the keg does dance a little. :!:

Third element for a five minute warm up and nine minute run? "You want to come over for the game? We can distill a run of UJSSM at half time and still have time for some wings!"

With 1.5'' headspace and 11kw, I would imagine you are getting significant entrainment. Is that what the in-line thumper is for?

Thumper is for flavor addition. With 1gal in thumper at start I removed less than 5 quarts after a strip. Did this twice.

That piece of kit makes my little tea urn look silly ! :mg:

Could never use it of course - even at 2500 W my plugs are getting warm !
