Custom Jewelry

Postby punkin » Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:38 am

Is anyone here into smelting and casting or stamping jewelry?

I'm after a small gold coin/medalion made to my design. I know it's out there, but with the range of skills on offer here i thought it was worth a shot?

I'm in PM's with another member, but what i'm after is a small gold coin less than or around a half inch, custom stamped with a word on the top and another on the bottom either side. It needs a minor loop to hang from an earring. Also needs a crease to be able to be snapped across the middle if some force was applied. :|

Sounds funny and i can't draw, but i'll know it when i see it.

You put too much gold in it and it'll bend instead of snapping.. If you need some text set, I'll be happy to help.

I don't actually want to snap it, just make it so it's breakable.

I've done some lost wax casting and sand casting pretty simple. I bet a good wax cast would do the trick, use 10 or 12q gold.

Gotta be prepared. It's a pretty widespread custom to carry a coin into the afterlife, from gold pieces under the tongue to pennys on the eyes.

You only busted your leg and you're already planning on "moving on", so to speak....you ain't old enough to worry about it. Hmmm....then again a little planning is never a bad idea. For some reason, now I'm thinking about a new tattoo.

Anyway....
I've done some silver jewelry work, but never worked in gold. At the moment, though, all my silversmith tools (and my whole blacksmith shop, too) have been taken down and crated in anticipation of our coming move.
