500L French Wine Puncheon/Butt

Has held vintages of Pinot Noir since 2005. Scored for $40. Removed a few rings so I could remove the end. Add:

My 25gal brew pot, firebrick stand, and propane burner.

AC/DC transformer
12v pump
1'' bulkhead
Some hose and electrical connectors
1/4'' tapped hole at the very bottom for a plug - enables complete draining.

I fit in it fine at 6' 2''. Easy/intimate fit with the lady.

Still need to make two seats - one for to-the-neck submersion and one for cooling off the upper body. Also need a small tray for beer/candle/etc.

Took 2hrs to go from 70degF to 102degF on medium flame. One problem so far is that my body displaces more than the brewpot can handle on overflow. Also, the 1'' bulkhead is a bit wimpy, requiring the clamp to reduce the flow out of the pump. Otherwise I'm totally happy with the setup.

Stayed in to 104degF this eve. Scooped out 10gal as I got in. Would be good to find a way around this. Afterwards, held the pump in the brewpot bottom to get as much water to remain the the barrel as possible. Felt a good 12V e-tingle from the edge of the pot when doing this. Better than 120/240 I suppose....

So let me get this straight, you're using a giant wine barrel as a hot tub? And you're using your brew kettle and circulation pump to provide hot water and jets?

Ok, you win.

Wow, just wow. That's the most interesting hot tub idea I've ever seen.... Do you end up smelling like wine after you get out?

The water had a bit of sherry-wine character the first time, but it wasn't really noticeable after that. Puncheon had been pressure-washed before I got it.

Pump is just for recirculation, not a jet thing.

Actually the real upgrade would be to have it heated with a flat panel solar collector. Store heat in an insulated 55gal drum, and transfer to the puncheon when needed through coils. Going to have to wait until somebody pretty much gives me one for that to happen though.
