Flaked grains Cairns Qld

Postby titus-a-fishus » Sat Jan 14, 2012 7:06 pm

Hey all you Qlders
Am looking for a supplier of flaked wheat or barley in Cairns Queensland.
I know Harry is in the area.

Do you use flaked grains and if so where can I buy some?

This is about my failed attempts to get flavour out of an UJSSM
It has been suggested to me to try a different grain bill instead of corn to see what happens.
So will give it a go, if I can find a decent supplier of flaked grains.

Cheers

Rural feedstores/produce stores. Been some years since I bought steam-rolled grains. But the one at Gordonvale has bulk molasses @ $20 / 20 lt drum. They've prolly got feedgrains too.

Big home brew stores will have them. trouble is they'll want as much or more than malt.

So you may as well use malt. It tastes better in a brew and you get the value of the conversion too.

You can add it to corn to add a complexity. Say 20% malt barley and 10% malt rye or oats or whatever else you want and the rest corn.

It will improve a ujsm no end. The home brew shop will crack it for you for free too :8)

Tried to get malted barley at the local brew shop today and all I got was "Malted what?"

Useless as tits on a bull.
Was too late to get to the stockfeed place.
Tomorrow is another day

I even went to the local feed store a few days ago for some barley. Answer - No, don't keep it, it attracts wevils.

Cheers.
