It looks like they took the major portion of the modernization act and signed it into law.... minus the legalization of home distilling. Am I understanding that correctly?

(basically they passed the legal distillery tax cut?)

That's the way I see it. That excise cut is really important to us. Good onya Ron Wyden, senator from Oregon.

You can make whisky in a reflux still, you can make vodka in a potstill,
and you can eat chicken noodle soup with a crescent wrench. But...

Oh yeah, I see that being a huge benefit.

I wonder if there will be continued pressure for legalizing hobby distilling?

Well, at some point someone took out the part that would have legalized it. Whether it was big booze, or busybody members of congress who think the bottom dwelling public would surely kill themselves if left to there own devices, it wasn't in the final version of the legislation. If it happens, it will probably need to happen at the state level - like marijuana. It's legal at the state level in Missouri and maybe close to being made legal in a couple of others. Start pushing at your state legislators.

Michigan law is written to allow it, if and only if it becomes legal on a federal level. It refers to federal law. That sucks.
