Need a little help with searching as usual. I remember a thread where some aussies contacted one of the major yeast importers and bought direct.

I'm looking for a brick of Safale us-05 or equivalent.

Also after an online source for things like hops, specialty grains etc as my local brew shop is not geared towards anyone doing anything themselves. :(

I got 500g of EC1118 direct from Lallemand in Adelaide if that was what you were thinking about.

Cheers.

Marks Home Brewhttp://www.ubrew.com.au/ in Newcastle (Islington, in fact) caters to lotsa grain brewers. He knows every damn thing there is to know, and the shop's always full of AG beer nutters speaking in tongues. There must be about 10-20 different grains/malts in big bins at the back of the shop. Mark's not a bad bloke either.

Pretty sure he'll ship but if not I can always pick up and send anything you need.

There's also http://www.ellersliehop.com.au/

They supply bulk hops in 500g, 1kg 5kg lots

Their prices are quite good

You need to email them for a price list though

Punkin,

Depends on what yeast you're after.

I just bought 500g EC1118 from winequip.

Ross at Craftbrewer (www.craftbrewer.com.au) can also supply yeast in bulk (they repackage several brewing strains eg US05 & S189 into their own packs) give him a call. BTW, he's getting me in some Safspirit Malt & grain (http://www.fermentis.com/SHARED/Doc_52446.pdf)

MHB is a great AG brewer who offers lots of good brewing advice on the aussiehomebrewer forum

No affiliation blah blahblah

Yeah, that's Mark from the shop I referred to above.

I can get all the Laffort yeasts straight from the manufacturer too - I've become a bit of a regular over there..

Punkin - don't forget that different styles need different malt.

i forgot to mention that Craftbrewer can supply 500g of US05 aka 1056. They also supply lots of malt. if you're ever planning a trip to brisvegas call ahead & they'll have it ready to pick up.

other online suppliers with a focus on AG include daveshomebrew.com.au in North Sydney and thebrewshop.com.au

Thanks crozdog, i'll give em an email on the yeast.

I'm thinking of doing the SMaSH (single malt and single hop) type recipes to start to learn about hops. I will, eventually try roasting some of the base malt i have and of course purchasing some.

I hoping i don't get sucked into learning a lot about it. Just how to make 2 or 3 house beers is all i need. :?

Just to give Kiwis ear a rest i'll ask a few questions here....

Am i better off with pelletised hops or whole hop cones? The cones are cheaper but it sounds like there's much less variety.

pellets are much easier to use - cones or plugs (compressed cones) often block up the kettle pick up tube.

don't forget to store em in a ziplock bag in the freezer
